AUST gets new President

The Board of Trustees of AUST appointed Prof. Wole Soboyejo as the new substansive President of AUST.

Prof. Soboyejo was selected to this position through a worldwide competitive selection process and his appointment is effective 3rd January 2012. Prof. Soboyejo will be responsible for developing and implement AUST's global strategy, which includes research partnerships, recruitment strategies, curricular revision etc.

He's the principal executive officer of AUST, and is therefore responsible for the administration of the university. He is also the chief academic officer of the university, responsible for providing academic leadership for the university.

The Board is confident that Prof. Soboyejo will bring the vision, experience and clear commitment to AUST's mission that will move the university forward in exciting ways, as we all work to elevate AUST's teaching and research capabilities and to enhance its student experience. We are also confident that all of the administrators, faculty, staff and students, as well as alumni and parents will share our enthusiasm upon getting to know him.

Prof. Wole Soboyejo was educated in England, where he received his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from King's College London in 1985, and a PhD in Materials Science from Cambridge University in 1988. He then went on to work as a research scientist at McDonnell Douglas Research Labs (1988-1992) and a Principal Research Engineer at the Edison Welding Institute (1992) before joining the engineering faculty at Ohio State University (1992-1999).

From 1997-1998 he was a Visiting Luther King Associate Professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering, and the department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. He then moved to Princeton in 1999 as a full professor in the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and the Princeton Institute of Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM). He has served as the Vice President - Academic, Research and Innovation at AUST since January 2011.
